Warwick Goble (November 22, 1862 – January 22, 1943) studied at the City of London School and the Westminster School of Art. He initially worked for a printer and depended on local gazettes for publication of his work. But he achieved success as an artist in his early thirties: The Royal Academy began exhibiting his work, and he found a market for his illustrations in numerous magazines. He began illustrating books in 1896 and became MacMillan's gift book illustrator in 1909, working on titles including The Water Babies, The Book of Fairy Poetry and Folk Tales of Bengal.
